Tourist Park
Cedar Falls, IA
Tourist Park is an 18-hole course in Cedar Falls and a genuine piece of Iowa disc golf history. Established in 1978 and designed by Ed Headrick, the man widely credited with inventing the modern disc golf basket, and it is recognized as the oldest disc golf course in Iowa. The course is short by modern standards, playing around 3,500 feet with every hole under 300 feet. Don’t let the distance fool you, though. Tourist is filled with mature trees, and most holes require hitting a specific line or gap rather than simply throwing for distance. There are plenty of legitimate ace runs and birdie opportunities, but hitting an early tree can turn an easy-looking three into something much less pleasant. The terrain is almost completely flat and the course flows through a compact, shady section of Tourist Park along the Cedar River. Concrete tees and permanent baskets make navigation straightforward, and a full round can usually be played in about an hour. Tourist is especially good for newer players because of the short distances, while experienced players can treat it as an accuracy course and attack nearly every basket. It’s also one of the better local choices when you want to play a full 18 without spending a couple hours on the course. It isn’t long, flashy, or particularly difficult, but Tourist has a ton of old-school disc golf character. Tight lines, mature trees, constant birdie chances, and nearly 50 years of history make it a Cedar Falls staple. If there's flooding... it's underwater.
